Project: Sustainable Steps for Carbon-Free Tomorrows

        The project’s priorities are:

        • HORIZONTAL: Environment and fight against climate change.
        • SCHOOL EDUCATION: Supporting innovators at school.

There are also three specific topics selected for the project:

        • Environment and climate change.
        • Green skills.
        • Digital literacy skills and competences.

        The project  goals are:

        • Increase recycling rates, raise awareness of efficient water use, and promote energy efficiency within our institutions, with the goal of reducing the carbon footprint by 10% within two years.
        • Enhance students’ and teachers’ awareness of carbon footprint and sustainability, ensuring they gain fundamental knowledge and practical experience within two years.
        • Support students in developing sustainable living habits and green skills by fostering an understanding of the importance of reducing the carbon footprint.
        • Improve the digital skills of teachers and students in order to reduce the consumption of natural resources within our institutions.
        • Break global barriers by nurturing responsible individuals who are sensitive to global issues, actively participate in addressing environmental and social challenges, and contribute to sustainable solutions.
        • Increase the international visibility of our institutions and strengthen institutional capacity.

The lead applicant, coordinating the project, is Szkoła Podstawowa nr 1 im. św. Jana Pawła II from Giżycko in Poland. The school is an eight-year old institution with one kindergarten group, serving 461 students aged 6 to 15 and supported by 43 teachers and 14 staff members. Cost and activities

The project includes four main thematic mobility activities, each lasting 5 days, carried out in partner countries.

The first mobility, “Digital Transformation in Education: Shaping the Future with Technology,” will focus on integrating modern technologies into teaching and developing digital skills for students and teachers.

The second, “From Waste to Resource: The Future of Recycling and Waste Management,” will address sustainable waste management, recycling, and turning waste into valuable resources.

The third, “Exploring the Power of Renewable Energy and Enhancing Energy Efficiency,” will cover renewable energy solutions and ways to improve energy efficiency in schools and local communities.

The fourth, “Saving Water, Securing the Future: Strategies for Efficient Water Use,” will focus on strategies for water conservation and raising ecological awareness regarding sustainable water use.

The total cost of all activities is € 60,000.

        Outcomes

The expected outcomes of the project include enhancing the digital skills of students and teachers, raising ecological awareness and promoting sustainable practices, implementing innovative energy and water solutions in schools, and preparing young people to act responsibly in protecting the environment and supporting sustainable development.

The project will enhance students’ and teachers’ skills in digital competence, environmental awareness, and sustainable living, aiming to reduce the schools’ carbon footprint by 10% within two years. Students will develop eco-friendly habits, green skills, and social responsibility, while teachers will integrate innovative digital and sustainability practices into their lessons. The project will be evaluated through carbon footprint measurements, digital competence tests, feedback from students, parents, and teachers, and assessments of student-led environmental projects.

        Results

Results will be shared locally through school events, social media, and collaboration with parents and civil society organizations, and internationally via eTwinning, Erasmus Project Results platforms, and a published e-book of best practices. Awareness campaigns will coincide with World Environment Day, World Water Day, and International Recycling Day to maximize visibility. Participating schools will incorporate successful practices into curricula and daily routines, ensuring long-term sustainability and ongoing use of project outputs. Digital tools and content created by students will transform them into active information producers, further promoting the project’s reach. Strengthened international partnerships will lay the foundation for future collaborative projects and wider dissemination of outcomes. Ultimately, the project will contribute to environmentally conscious, digitally competent, and socially responsible students while promoting EU values and sustainable practices across the school community.
